Hello Friends , Hope you all doing good!
I am sure in this lock down period, you want something tasty but also easy recipe that satisfy your tummy isn't it ? then no worries this dish has got everything you are looking for !

I promise this is going to be simple + delicious+ easy to make. There might be n number of recipes on the internet but this is definitely going to be different.

At my place , if its tomato rice ... the one who will be very happy is my sister:D
Anytime of the day , she is happy to eat this rice and very much fond of ricebath.

Usually tomato rice recipe that i have seen on the internet is like a one pot meal but this is how my mom makes from ages .If you ask me , i like both the recipes ;)

This is pretty simple recipe though we are making rice and tomato masala separately ,it wont take much time because the masala we use in this recipe is easy and also handy. The specialty of this rice is usage of Marathi moggu & that adds flavor to the rice.

This can be served for breakfast ,lunch or dinner

Ingredients

Oil - 3 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
Chana dal - 1/2 tsp
Hing - 1/8 tsp
Cloves ( lavanga) - 3
Cinnamon (Chakke) - 2 inch
Marathi moggu - 5
Chilli powder - 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Garam masala - 1/2 tbsp
Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp ( chopped)
Curry leaves - 8 to 10
Tomato - 1/2 kg ( chopped)
Rice - 4 cups (cooked)
Salt to taste

  • Take a pan, Add oil , mustard seeds ,urad dal, chana dal, hing , turmeric powder & curry leaves
  • Once urad & chana dal turns golden brown add in cloves, cinnamon & marathi moggu
  • Add in tomato and mix well in a medium flame for about 2 mins
  • Then close the lid and cook for 5 mins
  • And then add in salt & the masala i.e. chilli powder & garam masala mix well
  • At last , Add coriander leaves  and mix well.
  • Tomato rice masala is ready
  • Take a wider bowl & add rice (let them cool down) , add in tomato masala and mix well
  • Tomato rice ready to be served
NOTE:
  1. By the time , you prepare rice along side you can make this simple masala which saves time
  2. Marathi moggu plays an important role in adding flavor to the rice but if you dont have then skip it
  3. You can also add garlic cloves as per your taste
  4. Ensure the rice is cold and then the masala is mixed similar like lemon rice
  5. As we dont add salt in the rice while cooking , the additional salt required will be added in the masala itself. So add in as per your taste
  6. Add masala that is required for the rice and left over can be stored in fridge for a week.

     Happy cooking !
