A side dish that cannot be sidelined

Methi Matvadi Palya / ಮೆಂತ್ಯ ಸೊಪ್ಪಿನ ಮಟ್ಟವಡಿ ಪಲ್ಯ

So here i am with yet another simple and delicious recipe called Matvadi palya. This recipe was definitely not there on my long list 😃... but then i thought of sharing on my blog as we rarely(only when we buy Methi leaves 😁) prepare at home and this recipe definitely adds something different on your menu 😊

Methi matvadi palya is a tasty stir fry and chana dal is the main ingredient to make this delicious palya. Traditionally Matvadi Palya is prepared using a lot of oil.The dal and methi leaves mixture is sauteed in oil well until its cooked completely. This tastes really good but considering use of so much oil is not healthy ,the dal can also be steam cooked to make this recipe.

This simple and delicious palya can be served for lunch and dinner. This has to be served hot with rice and ghee or else the texture of palya will be dry when cold and doesn't taste good.

Below are the details of this recipe

Prep time : 30 mins
Course : Side dish
Cuisine : Indian

Author : Rohini

Oil - 1 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Methi / Fenugreek leaves chopped - 2 cup

( Soak Chana dal, Jeera and green chillies in hot water for an hour)

Take a kadai and add 2 tbsp oil ( use 2 tbsp from 1 cup oil ),Turmeric powder and methi leaves

Stir fry methi leaves in a medium flame until it is cooked and lightly roasted

Meanwhile grind soaked chana dal , Jeera and green chillies to a fine coarse by adding 1 cup of water and keep it ready

Once methi leaves are roasted , add the dal paste , salt as required and mix well

Further to this, add remaining oil to the palya and close the lid and cook for 10 mins

Open the lid and stir occasionally for 5 mins and switch of the flame

Methi matvadi palya is ready, you can serve this with hot rice and ghee or else if you do not want to use too much of oil ,you can steam the grinded dal paste and add to the Methi along with salt.Heat for 2 mins and switch of the flame.

This healthy steam cooked recipe can be added for evening snacks as well.
